Carisa Chan's Reflection

(I) Day 1 Plenary Sessions Reflection

(A) My key learning points from each session...

1. Importance of Water - Dirty and Clean
I have learnt that 3.4 billion people die each year due to dirty water and polluted water can cause cholera, dysentery, typhoid fever and brainerd diarrhea.

2. Revolution of Microelectronics Technology
I have learnt that the first freely programmable computer was built way back in 1936 and also the 9 O's (Bio, Radio, Auto, Info, Nano, Hydro (Water), Audio, Video, Energy y=mc^2 (two)) of the integrated circuit.

3. Biomedical Engineering & Technology
I have learnt about technologies that offer 'more for less', devices that are lighter, smaller and more affordable, while consuming less energy and raw material. I have also learnt about the camera pill which I have never heard of before the plenary session.

4. IT for Animation
I have learnt that the production of 2D animation costs more than 3D animation because of the intensive labour needed.

5. Disappearing glaciers, rising sea levels, and why gravity is even more important than you think
I have learnt that the sea-level rise is not the same everywhere on the planet due to spatial variations and also that gravity actually plays an important part to sea-level rise.

(B) Deepest impression...

The plenary session that leaves the deepest impression on me is disappearing glaciers, rising sea levels, and why gravity is even more important than you think. What I like about it is that I have learnt more about the Earth's geography and I never knew that gravity played such an important role on sea-level rise.
